Love That Dog

by Sharon Creech

Boys don’t like poetry!  Girls do.   At least that’s what Jack thinks before he meets Miss Stretchberry.  How will his journal and his poetic expression help him to talk about the giant that is bothering him?  Will poetry release a new power in him?**

"I read Love That Dog last night, and I really liked it.  I'm going to try something with the students this year.  I'm going to share poetry with them each day and then have them write in a poetry journal (spiral) in response to it.  That's the same thing that Jack's teacher did (it seems).  Hopefully they will get inspired to write poems.  I just wanted you to know how much I liked it.  I'm inspired to make time for poetry and I'm looking forward to reading and responding to the student's journals."
