Fame
and Glory in Freedom, Georgia Bird is a kid with no friends at school, but she does have her dreams of fame and glory. Miss Delphine always makes Bird feel special and is ready to listen when Bird drops by to chat. Harlem, that new, tall, skinny boy with long dirty hair is unpopular, too. Everyone in school makes Bird's and Harlem's lives miserable with their taunts and put-downs. That's why Bird gets the idea of making Harlem her friend. She even has a plan, but will she be able to crack through Harlem's tough shell? Then, the spelling bee offers new hope for fame and glory, but when she learns she has to have a partner, hope begins to fade. Even with the help and encouragement of Miss Delphine, will Harlem ever agree to help her? Will Bird ever find fame and glory in Freedom, Georgia? What does it take to make friend?
