Alert! Sometimes "I'm sorry" and "It's okay," are the hardest words in the world to say. Have you ever tried to say those words and they just wouldn't come out? It might be easier to write them. Here's a book that might help you! This is Just to Say is a book of poems of apologies and their answers...usually forgiveness. Will you be able to tell what the problem was and who was to blame? Can you guess who will apologize and who will be big enough to accept the apology? -------------------------- Research

* Language Alert: This book contains one instance of a character using Christ's name in cursing and one vulgarity written by a child. This Is Just to Say brings a message of apology and forgiveness, very important in this world, but includes two words that we wouldn't allow to be said in our classroom. It is disappointing that this award-winning book would model a vulgarity and the use of the name of Christ in cursing for our children. (We don't expect all children to be Christians, but we do expect all children to respect the sacred names in all religions.) We believe it is time to respect our children in all areas of their lives, including their literature. Then, perhaps, they will learn, by example, to show adults similar respect. We are grateful to authors who choose to use finesse in their descriptions of cursing and leave the exact words to the readers' experience and imaginations. "Children learn what they live."* |
