Clementine's
Letter by Sara Pennypacker "Sometimes you have to figure out the problem before you can figure out the solution." Clementine was gifted! She had great ideas! She made up exciting games! She could come up with projects to solve problems. But not everyone understood her like her teacher, Mr. D'Matz. He understood her! He understood how she could look out the window and listen at the same time. He didn't mind her drawing while he was talking and inventing new games to play while she worked. He appreciated her good ideas! He knew how to signal her when she needed to change what she was doing instead of yelling at her. How lucky she was to have Mr. D'Matz for her third grade teacher...for awhile. When Clementine's principal nominates the wonderful Mr. D'Matz for a special award that will take him to Egypt for the rest of the year, Clementine decides she must stop the train! What could she write in her letter to the judges that could make Mr. D'Matz lose? What could she say that would make him lose the award so she could keep him with her? Along the way to save Mr. D'Matz, you will meet Clementine's toddler brother, Broccoli...or Lima Bean...or Turnip, and her friends, Norris-Boris-Morris, Margaret, and Mitchell. Her ideas will make you roll on the floor laughing, but what she learns at the end just might make you love her the most. Research
