Spy! Nathan Hale's Song
Lyrics by Suzy Red, To the Tune of "The British Grenadiers"

England owned our country
When thirteen colonies thrived.
It let us make our own laws
So we worked hard to strive.
But then the King of England
Began to tax our land.
Without representation
With an unyielding hand.

Patriots shouted "Liberty!"
The Minute Men took arms.
Yet England sent their soldiers,
So out went the alarm.
Some took sides with England,
And Tories were their names.
The others were the rebels
Who fanned the Liberty flames.

Now, Nathan Hale, a teacher,
Came to New London town.
He brought his books
And knowledge
To serve the boys around.
He taught them pride in learning
To work toward their ideals.
He taught them rights
And honor.
And made their lessons real.

As word of war got louder
Master Hale was called to stand
Straight and tall for freedom
To protect his great homeland.
He left his school and students,
His family left behind.
His courage led him forward,
"I'll give it all that's mine."
