The
Night of the Seven Splashes
by Vivian Laubach Thompson A Special Hawaiian Feltboard Legend about the Creation of the Hawaiian Islands by the Menehunes Used by permission Petroglyph Press, Hilo, Hawaii "'Once
upon a time, in old Hawaii, on the island of Kauai, there lived seven
menehunes. Not only seven, of course. Kauai was the home of the menehunes
so the island was crowded with them!" Hawaiian folklore has always lent flavor and enchantment to its culture. Their legends explained how they saw the world around them. In The Night of the Seven Splashes, you will hear how the Hawaiian islands were created using their greatest helpers, the volcano and the sea, to create new homes for seven Hawaiian menehunes, Eka, Peka, Luka, Oka, Kele, Moke, and Wene. The story, along with patterns for the feltboard characters and islands, is included in Kids' Wings Tempests and Teamwork. Research Links ThinkQuest: Hawaii's Living Treasures Elvis
