Umbrella
Summer
Have you ever been afraid? Annie Richards has been. Annie wasn't just afraid of BIG dangers like earthquakes, fires, and plagues. She knew that she had to watch out for little things, like bug bites. In fact she covered her arms and stomach with Band-Aids and her legs with Ace bandages. You never know what might happen. Annie's brother, Jared, wasn't afraid of anything, and yet, he died after a little hockey puck hit him in the chest. The doctor said he had a heart problem. So Annie had to give up fun. She had to become cautious. Even when her friend Doug tried to get her to play some really fun games, Annie said no. Her friend, Rebecca, wanted Annie to ride bikes with her, but Annie, who couldn't allow herself to ride fast, had to settle for "Turtle Tracks." Don't be surprised if you roll on the floor laughing on one page, and feel a tear run down your cheek on the next. You see, this is the story of a regular girl who struggles to find happiness in the face of death. It's an amazing story of friendships, a haunted house, a safari ninja attack, and special neighbor who helps Annie close her umbrella of sadness so the sun can shine on her again. Research
