Amazing
Faces
A Poetry Collection by Lee Bennett Hopkins
Poems
that celebrate the rich diversity of American kids
"Amazing
your face. Amazing.
It shows there will be trails to follow, porches to wave from, wonder
from, play on."
Amazing
Faces
A Poetry Collection by Lee Bennett Hopkins
Did
you know that your face sends out signals to what you are feeling, to
what you are thinking, and what you are hiding from others?
When you are sleeping, your face shows your dreams that dance in your
head.
When you try hard to learn, your face shows your pride and determination.
When you are lonely, your face can be a magnet that invites others to
include you or a warning that sends others away.
When you are an athlete, your face reflects your dedication to the team.
When you are relaxed and content, your face shows your creativity and
imagination.
When you are a firefighter, your face shows the stress of your job but
your eyes twinkle with strength and courage.
When you are an American, you stand tall with pride and love for your
country.
Amazing
Faces explores the expressions of Americans through poems that you
will enjoy reading. In them you will see people helping others, United
States flags waving, soldiers return home, the Fourth of July, and other
special times that bring Americans together.
The
Kids' Wings literature guide for Amazing
Faces invites group discussion, exploration of poetic devices including
figurative language, skill building, and an invitation to write a poem
about a different face. The poems that are included represent a cross
section of people from various places, with various dreams and problems.
