Benjamin
Franklinstein Lives! Have you ever entered the Science Fair? Was it difficult deciding on the best project to do? Were you disappointed when things didn't work like you expected? If so, you will understand what Victor was going through. But Victor was a brilliant scientist who never wavered from the scientific method so things almost always worked out perfectly for him. His best friend, Scott, was his polar opposite. He used haphazard science and actually celebrated when a project exploded! When an old man knocked on the door of the old brownstone where he and his mother rented rooms to try to make ends meet, Victor's life began to rock. First of all, this guy was creepy. He looked and dressed just like Benjamin Franklin! Second, his mother just tossed away his checklist of 15 things she must consider when accepting a renter! She explained that it was the handful of gold doubloons that convinced her. Victor figured they were fake, but they proved to be authentic and valuable enough to pay for a whole year's rent! It wasn't long before Victor found the old man in a secret laboratory below his basement, lying beside a coffin filled with a glowing liquid and attached by metal knobs in his neck to an electric wire! After Victor performed a heroic, carefully planned rescue, the old man explained that he was indeed the REAL Benjamin Franklin who had been awakened from a state of suspended animation after over 200 years. How could this be true? Victor had a lot of questions he needed answers for. Like, who awakened him for a starter? And why was he here? What powered him? What would happen if he got too much or too little power? Would Victor be ready for the answers? Would he win the science fair? Maybe we should ask, would he survive the science fair? Benjamin Franklin is about to lead Victor on a wild science fair ride, and Victor is about to try to introduce the famous American patriot to modern Philadelphia. Come along for a crazy trip where science meets American history and is zapped by a novel that hadn't yet be written! Benjamin Franklinstein Lives! is hilarious and becomes a catalyst for research to determine what is real in its science, inventions, American history, and Frankenstein connections. This book, woven into your classroom, will help your students understand what inventions really are and how the scientific method needs another ingredient: risk. The 44-page Kids' Wings literature guide invites group discussion, problem solving, research, experimentation, writing, skill building, math, and authentic applications, all inspired this science fiction fantasy, interwoven with historical fact and fiction. Included is an interactive Jeopardy-like game that will conclude the study with fun. Research
