Beware The town of Mont Petit Pierre has a history of being plagued by giants. Claudette's father had been a great giant slayer until a giant ate his legs and one arm. Now he's a blacksmith, and a tall fortress surrounds the town, protecting it from giants and magic. No one ever leaves Mont Petit Pierre to venture out into the surrounding territory. But, Claudette wants to be a giant slayer! Questioning the authority around her, strong, brave Claudette now sets out on an fantastical adventure that leads her, her little brother (an aspiring chef and sword-maker), and her rich friend (and aspiring princess) out the fortress walls, through the Forest of Death, across Mad River, and straight up the tallest mountain in giant territory. Their journey is fraught with surprising dangers and when they finally reach the mountain, the biggest surprise of all awaits! The characters in Giants Beware step out of the traditional roles. Excellent vocabulary provides some challenge. The plot is cute, if not predictable.
