Have you ever thought about running away from home? Young Sam Gribley makes his plans to run away. His plans include honing his skills, doing his research and, then, actually running away to the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. Alone in the wilderness, he finds shelter in a huge hollowed-out tree and adopts a falcon he names Frightful, and Baron Weasel for companions, and then works hard to find food to keep himself alive. He uses his research and his naturalist intelligence as his tool for survival. Sam's
is the fun and sometimes a bit scary story about learning to live off

nature. Blizzards, hunters, loneliness, and fear all battle to drive
Sam back to his crowded family in a bustling city, but his desire for
freedom, independence, and adventure is stronger. You might be tempted
to grab your fishing pole and try it yourself after you read My
Side of the Mountain, but we recommend you plan a camping trip with
your family first! Research
