Sally
Jean loved tricycles and bicycles from the time she
was a toddler. Every year she learned more tricks
and more about how her old garage-sale bike named
Flash worked. She had to work on it often and had
to raise the seat and handlebars, too. When she got
too big for it, she helped other kids by showing them
how to fix their bikes. She started saving pennies
for another bicycle. Her kindness to others is repaid
when a kindly junk man helps her.
This
is a precious story of perseverance, resourcefulness,
and caring for others. Sally Jean's story will help
even the youngest to understand the old Chinese proverb,
"Give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a
day. Teach a man to fish, and you'll feed him for
a lifetime."
